The Club places a strong emphasis upon applying for sustainability awards, viewing the successful receipt of awards as recognition that is owned by staff, members and the community.
Oak Flats Bowling and Recreation Club received a Highly Commended Award in the Clubs Community Awards 2014 in the area of Sustainability “Journey to Carbon Neutrality”
In 2013 the Club achieved national recognition for its commitment to sustainability by winning the prestigious Australian Business Awards – Environmental Sustainability category, cementing the clubs reputation as a leading practitioner of sustainability. The award category had a strong emphasis on not only the completion of sustainable projects and initiatives but also the strategic integration of sustainability into the very fabric of an organisation.
Nominated as a Finalist in the Green Globe – Small Business Sustainability Award 2012, the Club went one step better in 2013 by being named the Winner of this prestigious award.
The Club was also announced Winner of the Pat Mowbray Eco-Innovation Award 2013 and a Finalist as the ClubsNSW Clubs & Community Ambassador 2013.
Building upon the Club’s success of being the first business within the Illawarra, and the first club within NSW, to attain Silver Membership of the Office of Environment & Heritage (OEH) Sustainability Advantage (SA) Recognition Program, in 2013 the club became one of only five businesses in NSW to attain Gold Membership of the OEH SA Recognition Program. The Club will now aim to be the first business to reach Platinum Membership.
These outcomes have extended to members feeling proud to belong to a venue that actively promotes and strives to be a sustainable business.
Oak Flats Bowling & Recreation Club cleaned up at an industry gala dinner in Sydney; winning all three awards they were nominated for at the ClubsNSW Awards 2012.
The club won the Outstanding People Management award, Outstanding Financial Management and Outstanding Club Governance & Stewardship at the 2012 ClubsNSW Awards for Excellence before an audience including Premier Barry O’Farrell. Read more…
